Woops, I meant Reza Aslan.
The problem with Reza’s argument is the same as the problem with the Jesus Seminar’s argument which is basically the same problem with modern liberal theology’s argument. Namely, you can’t use the same source material (the biblical Gospels) to find factual “historical” information about Jesus & mythical “faith” information about Jesus, without a discernable external standard by which to judge the difference. And, you definitely can’t pull a Dan Brown and run to the Gnostic Gospels for more “historical” tidbits when it is abundantly clear to even the least interested reader that the Gnostic Gospels are utterly anti-historical farces (which was the obvious ironic point of second century Gnosticism).
Yeah, Fox News flubbed their equally problematic conservative interrogation of Reza, but the other media outlets fawning all over the supposedly learned scholar who has a bunch of secret information about Jesus is silly.
I’d much rather listen to RZA Aslan (who is on the move, I hear).
